In an IT Research & Development company, Datacenter infrastructure consists of its own internal managed services infrastructure plus Lab setups for various testing of Hardware & software. Their own setup mainly comprises of servers providing services for email, storage, project management and tracking, bug tracking to name a few. IT Research and Development secondary setups which are in form of Labs are used to test & provide utility feedback on their various upcoming products and services maybe for the parent or for the outsourcer organization. The Lab is generally managed by multiple Lab managers whose primary job is to ensure access availability to the sectional lab groups and the technicians who may be consolidated physically or geographically distributed.

The Lab manager also has to ensure smooth changes, any moves and adds to the setup on the Hardware, Operating system and Software level front.

Key challenges faced by the Lab mangers are

• Centralized Management to Lab infrastructure
• Consolidation of Physical and virtual setup
• Authenticated access to Lab Technicians to the required Infrastructure
• Heterogeneous Environment with multiplatform
• Repeated crash testing and recovery
• Control and Manage Power for optimization
• Secured Remote Patch Updates and Fixes
