APW President Systems (President), has set up a Proof of Concept (POC) Lab at Bangalore for running live demonstrations of Coolcentric’s LiquiCool data center solutions. (see Figure 1 below).

The US-based Coolcentric (a division of Vette Corp), is a leading global provider of thermal management solutions. Last October, APW President – the pioneer in enclosure systems (which play a vital role in data centers in the telecom, IT/ITES and electronics infrastructure segments) – had announced a partnership with Vette Corp. to distribute a range of advanced thermal management solutions in India.

“We are delighted to be part of the POC Lab initiative by APW President” says Peter Wong, Executive Manager, APAC, Datacom Facilities Division, Coolcentric. “We’re now called Coolcentric, and the name matches our mission: to deliver the world’s most energy and space efficient cooling solutions for reducing data center costs”.

Visitors to the POC Lab (located at APW President’s Attibele factory in Bangalore) can get a direct experience of Coolcentric’s data center products.

“Coolcentric’s family of data center liquid cooling products and services help mitigate problems associated with high inlet air temperatures that can cause equipment downtime or premature failure. These high density cooling solutions help clients deal with IT infrastructure that is stretched beyond its limits and allows operators to fully populate individual racks with positive results and dramatic cost savings*,” said S. Venkatraman, Vice President – Enclosure Solutions and Technical Services, APW President.

(* for more details refer to the Annexure mentioned below)

“We are pleased to make available the POC Lab to our customers so that they can actually get a live experience of the product in a realistic data center environment. At this site, we can simulate loads upto 3 blade chassis and prove to our customers that it is possible to achieve cooling for these high density loads. The focus is to improve Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and also to dramatically reduce the operating costs,” said Manish Bhatnagar, Vice President – Cooling Solutions Division, at APW President.

About LiquiCool® Solutions

Coolcentric™ LiquiCool® products are the world’s most energy and space efficient cooling solutions for reducing data center costs.

Coolcentric’s LiquiCool Rear Door Heat Exchanger (RDHx) is a water-cooled door that mounts to the back of server cabinets and cools computer equipment exhaust air before it re-enters the data center operating environment. The RDHx utilizes a low impedance fin and tube heat exchanger that does not have fans, moving parts or electrical connections, resulting in a dramatic reduction of energy consumption normally required for cooling. The adaptability to almost any server rack design makes this product a good fit for both existing legacy data centers as well as planned new facilities.

About Coolcentric (a division of Vette Corp)

Coolcentric was established in 2007, as a division of Vette Corp, to address the issue of increasing power and cooling needs in the Data Center white space. Vette Corp, established in 2004, is the world’s leading supplier of end-to-end thermal management solutions, from the component level to the system level to the facility level.

Using IBM technology, based on over four decades of liquid cooling experience, Coolcentric has developed a rack-based thermal solution that has been proven to be the most effective and efficient solution on the market. An extensive product portfolio coupled with a broad range of service options ensures customers that a turnkey solution can be easily deployed and maintained. Our application and design engineering customer support teams help clients choose the lowest cost solution that maximizes their cooling performance and lowers operating cost.

For additional information about Coolcentric, please visit www.coolcentric.com

Annexure

In today’s scenario, it is common to find under-utilized racks with only 5-6 kW loads (i.e. 1-2 blade chassis per rack OR 10-12, 1 u servers). Thermal issues due to lack of cooling crop up the moment this limit is crossed.

To optimally utilize a facility which translates to 10 to 20 KW per rack (see Figure 2 above) it has become necessary to use newer technologies – like the Rear Door Heat Exchanger that neutralizes the heat at the rear door before it enters the data center, making it the most efficient technology.

This was proved in the ‘Chill-off’ competition held by third party Sun Micro Systems at Lawrence Berkeley laboratory in San Francisco, USA.

For details of the “Chill-off” check at the site: http://tinyurl.com/yejr2ew

APW President Systems, the pioneer in enclosure solutions, is intensifying its initiatives in the Telecom, Contract manufacturing and Small and Medium Business (SMB) segments, as well as Entertainment / Healthcare and Government segments. Additionally, the company plans to lay emphasis on technical services and solutions and on expanding its market reach through a channel partnership program.

Technical Services

On the technical services front, APW President has been moving strongly to offer increased back-end support and advisory help to customers in data center and telecom center projects from an early stage of the planning cycle through design, deployment and completion. The company’s technical personnel are closely involved in counseling IT managers, sharing expertise, and evolving optional solutions with modularity, scalability and reliability.

“This is a natural progression,” said E. Elias, Managing Director, APW President Systems. “We have been developing our technical skills across a range of business verticals for almost a decade. With our cumulative expertise and insight, we are confident that our growing business in enclosure solutions will get added impetus even under difficult market conditions.”

In line with the strategy, the company recently announced the promotion of S. Venkatraman to the position of Vice President – Enclosure Solutions and Technical Services. He was earlier Associate Vice President – Sales & Service, a position he has held since February, 2006. Venkatraman has over 19 years of experience in sales and marketing.

Channel Partnerships

APW President’s channel partnership strategy in the last two years has given the company a fresh thrust that now includes a focus on solutions for small-and-medium business.

“We have a well-established business-to-business model, supported through marketing and sales distribution channels. We plan to increase thrust on sales through channels (system integrators, VARs etc.),” said Pramod Agashe, Chief Operating Officer, APW President Systems.

In developing channel partnerships, the company is enrolling channel champions who have a reputation for driving market growth, and for fostering a value-creation strategy that aligns with a customer-centric approach.

“To quote an example, we have appointed Asia Pacific Brands India Ltd (APBIL), a provider of distribution services for IT and Industrial products, as national distributor for the FlexiBox, our range of wall-mount cabinets,” says Pramod.

“APBIL is well-positioned to win new markets because of their aggressiveness – with their operating efficiency, knowledgeable sales representatives, and established professional practices such as customized logistics. They were a natural choice,” Pramod added.

About APW President

Headquartered in Mumbai, APW President Systems Limited is a 28-year-old company with a special proficiency in designing and delivering standard and custom-designed infrastructure management solutions.

Mumbai, APW President Systems, the pioneer in enclosure systems (which play a vital role in telecom, IT and electronics infrastructure), has expanded the capacity of its manufacturing unit at Attibele, Bangalore with the addition of a 45,000 sq feet plot. Construction of the new plating facility and factory premises will start by 20th of December, 2008 and be completed by Aug-Sept 2009.

In 2005, the company’s adjacent manufacturing unit in Bangalore, also at Attibele, was expanded by a massive 65,000 sq ft, including the very latest manufacturing technologies. This was an addition to the original 55,000 sq ft plant plot with which the company started operations in Bangalore.

Along with the 43,500 sq ft Pune plant, the company now has a total of 1,63,500 sq ft of manufacturing space in India.

“We already enjoy a leadership position in enclosure systems, and with the addition of this new plating facility at Attibele, we have enhanced our manufacturing capacity in India significantly. While the media is awash with talk of recession, lay-offs, frozen credit lines and falling profits, our company has continued its silent but confident march towards accomplishing its immediate expansion plans,” said E.A. Elias, Managing Director, APW President Systems.

“The significance of this acquisition is not simply in the value of the land, but rather the confidence in our ability to forge ahead despite the current downturn in the economy, which also affects our market sector. We believe strongly that the ‘India growth story’ will continue, albeit after a momentary dip. And we also believe in our own ability to chart our destiny and maintain our record of sustained growth,” Elias added.

State-of-the-art Facilities

The Bangalore plant is furnished with the latest machinery for sheet metal manufacturing. The fully-integrated facility includes robotic welding, turret punching and automated sheet bending machines. Other facilities include a hot phosphate pre-treatment line, wet-paint and powder-coating paint shops, chemical evaluation laboratory, CNC controlled machinery, extensive storage, assembly and shipping areas, an effluent treatment plant for meeting pollution control norms, a water treatment plant etc.

In the Pune plant, the line of modern equipment added includes a CNC Turret Punching Press, two CNC bending machines and a more efficient CNC shearing machine. Also new is the addition of the latest Powder Coating Plant, which includes a conveyorised environment-friendly pretreatment process and fully automated Powder Coating system. The state-of-the-art equipment ensures highly consistent quality levels and also results in very efficient powder recovery.

APW President Systems, the pioneer in enclosure systems (which play a vital role in telecom, IT and electronics infrastructure), has expanded the capacity of its manufacturing unit at Pune from 23,500 sq ft to 43,500 sq feet, including a modern conveyorized Powder Coating facility and flexible processes that will accelerate the delivery of a superior range of enclosure products. The expansion was made possible by acquiring the plot adjoining the existing factory and building a new 20,000 sq ft facility there.

In 2005, the company’s other manufacturing unit in Bangalore, at Attibele, was expanded by a massive 65,000 sq ft, including the very latest manufacturing technologies. This was an addition to the 55,000 sq ft plant located on an adjacent plot. Along with the 45,500 sq ft Pune plant, the company now has a total of 1,65,500 sq ft of manufacturing space in India.

“We already enjoy a leadership position in enclosure systems, and with the completion of this new facility at Pune, we have enhanced our manufacturing capacity in India significantly. With these expanded facilities, the production capacity will go up by at least 50 percent. We have the flexibility to make different types of enclosures, and our product development cycle time will come down substantially,” said E.A. Elias, Managing Director, APW President Systems.

“This expansion was necessary as we are growing at 25 percent each year, and there was a need to manage the consequent growing volume of customer orders,” Elias added.

Innovative Facilities

The line of modern equipment added includes a CNC Turret Punching Press, two CNC bending machines and a more efficient CNC shearing machine. Also new is the addition of the latest Powder Coating Plant, which includes a conveyorised environment-friendly pretreatment process and fully automated Powder Coating system. The state-of-the-art equipment ensures highly consistent quality levels and also results in very efficient powder recovery.

“With the new in-house powder coating operations, which was earlier outsourced, we have the capacity to provide superior product finishing with reduced process time. We expect to grow rapidly, this will mean more employment and business opportunities for suppliers in and around Pune, while our customers in India and abroad can expect quicker deliveries,” Elias said.

The Bangalore plant is furnished with the latest machinery for sheet metal manufacturing. The fully-integrated facility includes hot phosphate pre-treatment line, wet-paint and powder-coating paint shops, chemical evaluation laboratory, CNC controlled machinery, extensive storage, assembly and shipping areas, an effluent treatment plant for meeting pollution control norms, along with air filtering for dusty areas and paint shops, water treatment plant etc.
