Extenders are used on physical consoles or on consolidated consoles at a distance to enable remote operations. The reason for extending the reach (among others) could be for restricting access to a secured area or a hazardous area or for back racking.
Consoles can also be extended over a network to gain connectivity benefits.
Extender distances range between 500 feet to 1,000 feet or even to no limits depending on the business requirement.
